Cette technicienne de laboratoire dans une compagnie pharmaceutique cherchait un moyen de s’évader d’un travail où les procédures sont réglées au quart de tour. « J’ai beaucoup de créativité en moi et je voyais dans des livres, des boutiques ou sur Internet des bijoux que je trouvais vraiment beau. J’ai eu envie d’essayer d’en faire, puis une de mes cousine venait tout juste de s’acheter une nouvelle robe pour un mariage et j’ai eu un flash! Je lui ai donc fait un collier qu’elle a adoré et c’est comme ça que mon projet est né. »
« Je pense que mon côté calculateur, si important dans mon travail, transparaît dans mes bijoux. Ils sont souvent d’une même couleur et presque tous symétriques. J’ai rarement de plan de match quand je commence une nouvelle création et je me laisse beaucoup inspirer par les couleurs et les formes des perles. Ceci dit, j’ai toujours en tête de faire une création comme si c’était moi qui allait la porter. Il est essentiel qu’elle puisse s’agencer parfaitement avec un vêtement. C’est une des raisons pour laquelle je choisi souvent de faire des bijoux monochromes.»
La demoiselle, qui dit ne pas avoir de rituel particulier de travail apprécie, cependant travailler en écoutant la musique d’Ima et Jason Bajada. « Ce que je préfère faire, c’est les colliers. Je trouve qu’au final ce type de création en moi une plus grande fierté. »
« J’ai de la difficulté à me considérer comme une artiste. Je suis une autodidacte qui a appris sur le tas. »
A voir ses créations explosées et colorées, il y a fort a parier que le projet de Julie ne restera pas secret longtemps!

Three years ago Julie Mailhot aka Julie Jongleuse started to create jewellery and has been selling on Etsy since May 2008.
Working in a pharmaceutical company as a lab technician, she was looking for a way to release her exploding creativity. « I’m working in a very control environment and I’m a very creative person. I was seeing in books, internet and store very attractive necklaces. I told myself « Hey I could do that! ». Then one of my cousins bought a new dress to attempt to a wedding. This great idea for a necklace strokes me so I made it. My cousin just felt in love with it and that’s how my little project was born! »
« I think that the Cartesian side of me, so important in my job, bleed into my creations. A lot of my jewellery featured pearl of one color and the design is almost always symmetrical. Most of the time, I don’t have de definitive plan when I start a new creation. My inspiration comes mostly from the color or the shapes of the pearls themselves. Neither way, I always design my creation as if it was a piece for me. I think the most important think is that my pieces should be as versatile as they could be. That’s one of the reason why my creations are often monochrome.»
Even thought she claim not having a special way of working, Julie admit that she loves working while listening to the music of Ima and Jason Bajada. « What I like to create most is necklace. In the end, this type of piece usually fills me the most with pride. »
« I have a problem with calling myself an artist. I am an autodidact that learns most of his technique along the way. »
Seeing her colourful fire cracking creations, it’s a safe bet to claim that Julie’s project won’t stay secret for a very long time.
